Azerbaijan sees deflation in May

In May, consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month, the State Statistics Committee said on Wednesday.

In May, food products prices declined by 1.9 percent, tariffs for services grew by 0.2 percent, while prices for nonfoods remain unchanged.

During the month there was a decline in prices for food products such as semolina and buckwheat, bread, pasta, beef, lamb and chicken, fresh fish, raw milk, eggs, butter, sunflower oil and olive oil, sugar and granulated sugar, oranges, bananas, apples, pears, cherries, plums, strawberries, chestnuts, greens, cabbage, tomatoes and cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, garlic, mushrooms and potatoes.

Food products such as lemons, tangerines, beets, onions and carrots rose in price.

During May there was a rise in tariffs for passenger air transportation to the CIS countries.
