Lithuania seeks developed cooperation with Azerbaijan

06 June 2012 [13:08] - TODAY.AZ
Lithuania has willingness to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector,
Lithuanian Energy Minister Arvydas Sekmokas said at the 19th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference in Baku on Wednesday.

"We consider Azerbaijan as a very reliable gas supply source and we would like to develop our cooperation with the country in this regard," he said.

He stressed that the country does not want to be dependent on a single source of gas and intends to buy fuel from different countries. "Azerbaijan can be very important in terms of Lithuania's diversification policy," Sekmokas said.

He said that the country expects the launch of LNG terminal in Lithuania, which will provide the country with alternative sources in December 2014.

Lithuanian AB Klaipedos Nafta jointly with SOCAR are the participants of the international pipeline company Sarmatia, which is engaged in the development of oil transportation corridor Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk. Azerbaijani oil has already pumped to
Ukraine and Belarus via the Odessa-Brody pipeline.
