Azerbaijan opens tender bids on 2nd satellite program

Opening of bids on the tender, announced earlier by Azercosmos to build and launch low-orbit satellite and insurance services was held, Azercosmos said on Thursday. The tender results will be announced after the evaluation of proposals.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend earlier that Azercosmos received proposals from global satellite companies on the joint use of orbital positions of the second satellite program.

The second satellite is low earth-orbit satellite. It will be used for remote sensing of the Earth, in mapping studies, geological studies, etc.

The launch of the second satellite is projected in 2015.

Work is currently underway to launch the first telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan Azerspace. It will be launched in late 2012. Cost of the first satellite program in Azerbaijan is estimated at $250 million.
