Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover jumps

The country’s foreign trade turnover totaled $7.895 bn for Jan-March 2012 (including $2.5 bn in March) versus $36.326 bn in 2011, $27.9 bn in 2010, $20.818 bn in 2009, and $54.9 bn in 2008.

For Jan-March 2012 it grew by 7.6% against rise of 29.92% in 2011.

The best indicator in 2011 was registered in April ($3.38 bn) and in 2012- still in February ($2.875 bn).

The State Customs Committee (SCC) informs that for Jan-March 2012 Azerbaijan exported commodities of 998 names for $5.84 bn (+7.27% versus the 2011 same term index). In 2011 export reached $26.57 bn against $21.324 in 2010, $14.698 bn in 2009 and $47.756 bn in 2008.

For Jan-March 2012 the country imported goods of 4,684 names for $2.05 bn (+8.55%). In 2011 the figure reached $9.755 bn versus $6.599 bn in 2010, $6.119 bn in 2009 and $7.16 bn in 2008.

Positive balance on import and export operations for Jan-March 2012 amounted to $3.7 bn. In 2011 it was $26.57 bn against $14.725 bn in 2010, $8.578 bn in 2009 and $40.59 bn in 2008. Last year’s best index was recorded in May ($1.8 bn).

"For the first three months of 2012 customs fees totaled $251.715 million, including $89.205 million of custom duties, $145.8 million of VAT, $13.409 million of excise duties and $3.267 million of road taxes,” it was reported.

As a result, overall customs fees for Jan-March 2012 made up 12.25% this year versus 11.7% in 2011.

Over Jan-March 2012 Azerbaijani resident and non-residents conducted trade operations with 118 countries of the world versus 149 in 2011. Foreign trade operations involved totally 4.019 legal entities and individuals, including 2.358 legal entities (178 participants from state and 2.180 companies from private sector) and 1,661 individuals.

The share of state sector in export operations reached $5.565 bn, private sector $260.367 million, and individuals $15.452 million.

The state sector share in import operations made up $433.332 million, private sector $1.523 bn and individuals $97.245 million.
