Azerbaijan seeks favourable tax administration

09 February 2012 [20:01] - TODAY.AZ
The Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan is aiming to create the most convenient and profitable tax administration for business people, the Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov said at the'Tax System in Azerbaijan: realities and perspectives' forum in Baku on Thursday.

"There are a number of promotions in this area. Time spent on preparation and submission of tax returns, including the implementation of tax payments in Azerbaijan is ahead when you compare the same figure in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the world on average," Mr Mammadov said.

He said, about 90 per cent of tax returns are provided electronically at the moment. Most are done on time due to the improvement of the tax administration mechanism and improvements in keeping the taxpayer informed.

"A particular focus is the application of modern information technology in tax services. The Ministry of Taxes intends to continue to minimise contacts between officials and citizens which play an important role in the fight against corruption, through the widespread use of electronic services," Mr Mamedov said.

The minister said the main goal is to use modern electronic technology at all stages of the relationship between taxpayers and tax authorities, from the registration and submission of declarations to tax payment completion and supervision.
