Frankfurt launched a world championship in judo amongst masters (veterans).

In the first day of the championship, Azerbaijani judokas garnered three medals. In M1 age category at 66kg, Yusif Budagov defeated Mathieu Lalanne (France), Victor Shelesh (Hungary), Miroslav Siculo (Czech Republic), Sergei Bocharov (Russia), Erich Ayvinger (Austria) and ranked first.

In the same age category, Rasul Salimov (90kg) triumphed over Mongolia, Germany, Russia (two fighters) and also became the owner of the gold.

Besides, Muhammad Muslimzada (M7, above 90kg) became the bronze winner. In the team event, Azerbaijan ranked 8th.
