Leo Messi is the boss and he is showing why on Barça's current trip to Munich and Oslo. With all the club captains, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta and Valdés currently absent (the first is injured and the other three are back next Monday) he is in charge. Against Bayern he wore the captain's armband during the 45 minutes he played, but his ascendency within the side is much more than just that. It is more about attitude and how he has stepped up in the hour of need during the strange situation the club is going through on this mini-tour.

Barça is waiting for 'Tata' Martino while the 12 first team players who have already been back in training a week and a half have recently said goodbye to Tito Vilanova and are living a situation whereby they do not know if his assistants Roura and Rubi will continue with the club.

The blow about Tito not continuing has still to be accepted and the players appear to be affected. Under this cloud the side arrived at the Allianz Arena to face the most complicated of matches, against the current champions of Europe, trained by none other than Pep Guardiola. Fear was obviously evident and Messi knew it. However he showed all his pride to take charge of the situation and within one minute from kick off he cracked in a shot with his left foot that flew just wide. The warning was clear – "We are Barça!"
