The Outer Research Expedition Group of the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry started an expedition in the mountains of Major and Minor Caucasus on March 1, 2012, with a view to perform the observation and assessment works on snow reserves for the purpose of the preparation of flow forecasting of water-richness period of spring and summer seasons in Azerbaijan. The expedition will last for 20 days.
Snow measurement works will be carried out on 28 routes in river basins of the Gadabay, Gyoy-Gyol, Dashkasan regions of Minor Caucasus, Balakan, Zagatala, Oguz, Gabala, Guba, Gusar regions of Major Caucasus, as well as Nakhichevan AR based on the special programme. According to the outcomes of snow measurement works, snow-water reserves formed in upriver basins will be evaluated and it will be used in the setting of flow forecasting of water-richness period.
