European People's Party (EPP) will cooperate with the ruling party of Azerbaijan.

"The question of cooperation with the largest political force of the European Parliament - European People's Party - will be discussed at a meeting of EPP, which will take place this autumn," the website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party reported.

The EPP brings together right political parties of EU member states.

Azerbaijani MP Asef Hajiyev, who attended summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius on July 3, met with the chairman of EPP Wilfred Martens, Swedish MP Valburg Habsburg Douglas and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's special representative Goran Lennmarker. "The meeting discussed the involvement of New Azerbaijan Party as an observer," the report says.

On behalf of NAP, Hajiyev invited EPP chairman to visit Azerbaijan.

The NAP was established by Nakhchivan Parliamentary Speaker Heydar Aliyev in 1992. President Ilham Aliyev is the party's chairman. The party has ruled the country for 16 years.
