Turkish Foreign Minister has commented upon Turkish-Armenian relations during a press conference.
The Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Babacan commented upon Turkish-Armenian relations during a press conference following the talks held between EU and Turkey in Czech Republic. Mr. Babacan informed that the issue on opening up the borders with Armenia was still on the agenda and that that was a part of official Ankara’s peace policy in the region. “There are a number of conflicts in South Caucasus including Abkhazia, South Ossetia as well as Daqliq Qarabaq. On one hand, Turkey hold talks with Armenia, on the other hand, it endeavors to assist the settlement of the conflicts between other countries in the region. It is a general process and it aims to ensure peace and stability in the region.” Mr. Babacan said.
Noting Azerbaijan’s importance in the region, Turkish Foreign Minster said Daqliq Qarabaq conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia was dealt by the OSCE Minsk Group. “We hope the Minsk Group will achieve concrete results in the settlement of the conflict. Europe has also got a unique opportunity and it should not miss it. We believe that there is a way out of this conflict and at present there are real opportunities emerged in the resolution process.” Mr. Babacan said.
