Political parties functioning in Azerbaijan have defined the main priorities of their activity in 2007.

YAP deputy executive secretary Mubariz Gurbanly told the APA that party's leadership considers strengthening of local organizations of the party; popularization of Heydar Aliyev's ideas and explanation of president Ilham Aliyev's steps to the people.

Azerbaijan Popular Front Party chairman Ali Kerimli told the APA that the party will take possible steps in the spheres of broadening of political rights, making amendments to the Election Code, restoration of freedom of assembly, prevention of pressures on the press and protection of freedom of speech.

Besides, Ali Kerimli said that they will exert pressures on the government for the solution of the problems connected with price rises and stresses that an official decision wil be made in the meeting of the Supreme Council in January.

First deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Democrat Party Serdar Jalaloglu told the APA that the document of official activity will be defined in the Supreme Council of the party.

"I think the main priorities are to take possible steps connected with the improvement of people's social-economic conditions, to try to democratize the pre-election conditions before 2008 presidential elections, to cooperate with the government for carrying out democratic reforms in the integration of Azerbaijan to Europe," he said.

Deputy Chairman of Musavat Party Arif Hajili told the APA that the party's priorities for 2007 have been defined.

"Improvement of the conditions in the country and development of democracy in Azerbaijan are expected to be the main priorities. The steps to be taken in the sphere are shown in the document," he said.

Arif Hajili stressed that 2008 presidential elections, integration within opposition and other issues are also among them.
