Today, no one will dispute the fact that Azerbaijan is not only the leader of its region, but in recent years its authority has gone far beyond the South Caucasus. The small Caucasian state has made a serious leap forward, destroyed traditional ideas about the place of small countries in world politics and developed an image of a trustworthy member of the international community.

Subtle and well-structured diplomacy, utmost honesty in relations and the ability to listen to one's partners while keeping one's own interests intact are all signature features of Baku's policy. Each of these factors is not unique in itself, but such a combination is very rare in world politics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the VII World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue on the theme "Dialogue for a common future", President Ilham Aliyev listed the main points indicating the perception of the country in the international arena. Azerbaijan is perceived as a partner worthy of the trust of the world powers. It is a strategic partner of the world's largest economies and leading European countries. He has authority in the West, in the East, in the West, in the Muslim world, and in the Turkic space. For example, Baku recently hosted the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA), the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held here in 2027, and the summit of the European Political Community in 2028. In addition, Azerbaijan, not being a Central Asian country, has become a full member of the Central Asian Consultative Format.

According to President Ilham Aliyev, this is a sign of respect for Azerbaijan. According to him, "the reason for these important events was the Azerbaijani society, as well as the state policy of multiculturalism aimed at building bridges rather than building walls."

The head of state spoke about the country as a whole, but let's not forget about the role of leaders. Trust in the state is formed primarily from trust in its leader. The trust that Azerbaijan enjoys on the world stage today is based on trust in its President. As a high-level politician pursuing an honest, clear and predictable course, capable of solving the most difficult issues. The President of Azerbaijan is the master of his word and the guarantor that all international agreements will be respected.

It's not that easy to earn trust. You don't have to be the leader of a superpower. You can lead a small country and at the same time be the most welcome participant on international platforms, the one to whom other countries turn for advice. Honesty in foreign policy opens the door to understanding and trust, giving serious weight to a politician's word and signature. This is very important, especially in today's chaotic environment.

For many, the word "predictability" cuts their ears. But in international politics, this quality is considered a huge advantage. The predictability of Azerbaijan's policy stems from the qualities that we have already noted: Baku's clear and honest course. If President Ilham Aliyev has given his word or signed, he will not give up on them, regardless of changes in the geopolitical situation, someone's demands and interests. This is called predictability. Leaders who pursue predictable policies are always trusted. They have more friends and real partners. Because being their friend and partner is comfortable and safe - you don't expect a stab in the back and a trip up.

The opinion of the President of Azerbaijan is being listened to in world capitals. Because this opinion is independent and there is nothing behind it except the interests of Azerbaijan and a pragmatic view on the future of partnership.

At the same time, official Baku knows how to resist external pressure and blackmail and reacts harshly to any manifestations of disrespect for the country and its interests. One of the main lines pursued by President Ilham Aliyev is equality in relations. For example, by his consistent policy and firm position, he ensured that Azerbaijan was no longer considered by the European Union in the same cage with other post-Soviet countries seeking partnership with the EU. Azerbaijan stands apart, it is not a supplicant or a consumer, but a partner who can partner on equal terms. The same firmness is evident in relationships with close partners if they begin to perceive Baku's predictability incorrectly. Friendship, brotherhood, and good neighborliness are not indulgences that absolve all sins in advance.

President Ilham Aliyev said, speaking at the forum on intercultural dialogue, that "any sign of disrespect, any sign of an unreasonable sense of superiority and an unreasonable opinion that someone can dictate something to us, has met and will always meet our resistance and a very firm approach." The Azerbaijani leader rightly believes that if each country takes care of its own affairs and does not interfere in others, there will be fewer conflicts and more interaction.

Azerbaijan itself strictly adheres to this rule in its relations with other countries. If he sometimes allows himself to step back from it, it is only in response to someone's malicious steps. This is well known, for example, in France.

Azerbaijan's policy is really independent, it does not need to look around for an approving nod from any of the powers in order to make decisions and take certain steps. The President's course ensured Azerbaijan's political independence, which, in turn, grew out of economic independence. President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stressed that economic independence is the cornerstone of political independence. Energy projects, large-scale transport and logistics partnership, and the proper use of the country's potential have provided Azerbaijan with economic security. There are only a few countries in the world whose foreign debt is expressed in single digits. One of them is Azerbaijan. What does it mean? This means that he practically does not owe anyone and does not depend on anyone.

President Ilham Aliyev has set a goal to refuse loans and try to manage with his own funds. It was a long and difficult process. There were times when borrowing was necessary for the development of the country, but a proper financial and credit policy allowed Azerbaijan to increase its external resources, ensure the financial security of the state in this sense, and at the same time implement expensive projects at its own expense. The most capital-intensive task facing the country is the program for the restoration of the liberated territories, in which more than 25 billion manats have already been invested. This is a huge amount, but its disbursement does not affect the financing of social programs - pensions and salaries are growing annually.

Azerbaijan has faced many obstacles in realizing its interests as an exporter of energy resources. Turning a country with relatively low production into one of the most sought-after partners for Europe was not an easy task. The Southern Gas Corridor was implemented with the leading initiative, political will and leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. It was a breakthrough that immediately raised the country's status. An accurate calculation based on the gas transportation infrastructure (which many major global exporters do not have) has done its job. The same applies to a well-thought-out approach to using the geography factor. As a result, Azerbaijan is today an indispensable partner in Europe's energy security, as well as an indispensable transport and logistics hub that allows it to support East-West trade in the face of geopolitical upheavals. Azerbaijan was one of the first to support China's Belt and Road initiative, and initiated the creation of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor.

The President of Azerbaijan demonstrates foresight in everything. By building relations with other countries, he sets broader goals, turning them into partners and their neighbors. "In order to play a significant role in the field of transport connectivity, it is necessary to maintain good relations with our neighbors and with the neighbors of our neighbors, and this is exactly what is happening," says President Ilham Aliyev. He also believes that although the protection of national interests is a fundamental factor in the country's policy, we should not forget about the interests of our neighbor. The Azerbaijani leader wisely assesses the situation, realizing that one cannot act completely in isolation from the regional or global context, abusing a unilateral approach. This is a formula for mutually beneficial cooperation, reliable partnership, mutual understanding and respect for each other's interests.

This formula works in a two-way mode. President Ilham Aliyev forced the world to take into account the interests of Azerbaijan.
