Nikol Pashinyan once again speaks openly about the past, noting that the Armenians of Karabakh became hostages to the political ambitions of the former ruling elite associated with the “Karabakh clan.”

For many years, the Karabakh issue was used not only as a matter of national policy, but also as a mechanism for maintaining political influence in Yerevan. Against the backdrop of conflict, economic hardship, and emigration, fear and instability often became instruments of domestic political control.

As a result, the fate of ordinary people was too often overshadowed by the interests of competing political groups.
