The Azerbaijani Parliament has adopted the Constitutional Law on 'Providing Security for ex-Azerbaijani presidents and their families' at a meeting today.

This issue was adopted during the referendum held in 2009, chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal policy and state building Ali Huseynli said at a meeting today. It was put to a vote again because it is Constitutional Law, he said.

In accordance with the constitution, the law will apply to people who have held presidential office and also in respect of people working as the president, but died. It is also in respect of people working as president and whose powers were suspended, as well as members of their families. The law will not apply to a president dismissed as a result of impeachment.

In the absence of a wife, the children will receive the pension when they reach 18.
The project provides a former president with a state car, a driver and three bodyguards. In the case of the death of an ex-president, his family will receive cash security instead of a car.

Ex-presidents and their spouses will be provided with diplomatic passports. Their inviolability will be protected by law. If an ex-president and his wife commit a crime, they may be detained upon the prosecutor's order.

Regarding ex-presidents and their families, the bill envisages a law on the medical care for state employees.
