Internet radio and Internet-TV will not be licensed in Azerbaijan, Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov said at the conference-seminar "Values of the new media era" in Baku today.

Hasanov refuted the rumors spread in Azerbaijan and in the international organizations about licensing of Internet radio and Internet-TV in the country to limit their activities. Former OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Miklos Haraszti also expressed his concern in this regard. Such intentions may create great problems for the development of Internet resources in Azerbaijan in the future, Haraszti said.

Hasanov named these rumors about plans for licensing of e-media as untrue. "We do not have and would never have such plans," Hasanov said, adding that the accusations against the Azerbaijani authorities are unfounded.

He also disagreed with the assertion that there is no freedom of speech, press and information in Azerbaijan.

"The fact that Azerbaijan ranks the 145th among 160 countries in the Index of freedom of speech is a fiction, and this is out of the question," Hasanov pointed out.
