22 April 2010 [13:11] - Today.Az
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has developed and implemented correct and effective corrosion monitoring strategies at BST facility (the Georgian Black Sea oil terminal Kulevi), the terminal reported.
The main target of corrosion inspection at BST is getting proper observation of facility integrity condition, identifying the corrosion status and reliability of process equipments.
BST Inspection team use different type of None Destructive Testing for surveying of corrosion condition of equipments, its structure and life expectancy. Thorough examination is ongoing on all parts of process piping, pressure vessels and storage tanks.
Achievements of inspection results are expectable, current condition of all surveyed equipments are on satisfactory condition and all of them have high reliability for further operation.
Corrosion inspection and control at the BST is continuously perform to identifying of all anomalies occur and will help to predict life expectancy of all process and utility equipments.
BST integrity team prepared all technical procedures and strategies for full range inspection activities to be carried out.
Corrosion is deterioration or degradation of metal components due to interactions with their environments. Corrosion can lead to failures in plant infrastructure and machines which are usually costly to repair, costly in terms of lost or contaminated product, in terms of environmental damage, and eventually it may be costly in terms of human safety. Proper corrosion inspection and monitoring may reduce of risks, at all stages of systems life, from the design to the last day of operation.
The terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.
The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters. The port has two berths to load petroleum products in tankers of up to 100,000 tons.
Loading productivity ranges from 1,000 to 8,000 cubic meters per hour. The railway station, which can simultaneously accommodate up to 180 carriage awaiting discharge of cargo, serves to the port. The railway trestle can simultaneously unload 168 carriages.
