Azerbaijan is about to join the WTO, but the membership in this organization will inevitably open doors to genomodified foodstuffs and agricultural production, said head adviser of the commission of Milli Medjlis on economic legislation Amirkhan Babashev, according to Novosti-Azrbaijan.

"In line with paragraph 12 of the WTO charter, the member-state of this organization can not impose restrictions on export and import of goods, yet Azerbaijan can demand from all importers to fix whether the goods contain genomodified production on the package", he said at the conference "State of Agrarian market", held by the Center of Economic Research.

He said the world science has not proven the damage of genomodified products for human body.

"The United States makes a use of that, by selling such agricultural products to Europe. The same fate is expected for Azerbaijani market after WTO accession and only our awareness of the products content can protect us from these products", said Babashev.
