2010 Khojaly Commemoration & Pax Turcica Census Workshop to take place

On February 25, 2010, Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC), Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA), Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA), the American Turkish Association of Washington DC, the George Washington University (GWU) Turkish Student Association and the DC-based Azerbaijani-American Student Assocation (AASA) will co-organize a seminar dedicated to the 18th anniversary of Khojaly Massacre.

During the same event, under the Pax Turcica Initiative, organizers will also be conducting the joint community seminar to raise awareness about the  upcoming 2010 U.S. Census.

Khojaly, once an Azeri-populated town located in the Mountainous Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, was occupied by Armenian forces on  the night of February 25-26, 1992. Its population was subjected to ethnic cleansing and massacre by the occupying forces, killing 613 Azeri  and Ahiska Turkic civilians, including 106 women and 83 children, according to the Human Rights Watch.
