Poachers arrested in Azerbaijan

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan arrested on Thursday at 17:30 p.m. nine villagers in Narimanabad-2 of Lankaran District, who broke the maritime border and engaged in illegal fishing.

Afterwards, relatives of the detained and about 150 villagers arrived at the border post to put pressure on the servicemen, demanding their release, a joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Interior Ministry reads.

"The officers arrived at the scene and tried to calm the crowd down. However, a group of villagers resisted and caused various degrees of damage to the police. Nine disorderly persons, who resisted the authorities, were taken to the Lankaran District Police Station. Three of them were released after providing an explanatory letter, while the other six are still in police custody," a statement reported.

District Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal case under Article 315.1 (resistance and the use of force against a government representative) and 221.3 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code. Investigation is conducted.
