Azerbaijan to prevent illegal hotels’ activity

Azerbaijan will take tough measures against the illegally operating hotels and hotel-type facilities from 2012, Head of the Department on researches, statistics and licensing of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Rahman Orujlu reported. Orujlu said the hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan have been instructed to get licenses by late 2011.

"They were given time until the end of 2011. The Ministry does not issue licenses for the objects, which don't meet the minimum requirements. Normally functioning hotels and hotel-type facilities prepare documents for licensing, and their documents will be reviewed. Licensed hotels and hotel-type facilities are expected to increase in number," Orujlu said.

Most of the unlicensed hotels and hotel-type facilities are located in Nabran. Now most of them don't operate because of the winter season. "The number of operating facilities has dropped because of the winter season. Necessary measures will be taken with regard to these hotels once they resume operating in summer," Orujlu said.

“As for Baku, we can say that there aren't unlicensed hotels and hotel-type facilities in the capital.”  So, 115 hotels and hotel-type facilities operate on the basis of licenses in Baku and the Absheron peninsula, Orujlu said.
