Azerbaijan’s "dangerous" regions announced

Azerbaijan recorded 369 cases of human brucellosis in January-October 2011, Director of the Health Ministry Epidemiology Department’s Anti-Plague Station Rita Ismayilova said. There were recorded 12 human brucellosis in January 2011, in February - 22 , March – 29, April – 58, May – 44, June – 50, July – 45, August – 36, September – 48 and October - 25.
 
"Most of the cases appeared in the country’s regions. As, the largest number of such cases were registered in Shamkir (32), Gabala (24), Agjabedi (21), Gadabay (17), Gazakh (14), Imishli (14), Beylagan (12) and other areas during the report period. Six cases of brucellosis revealed in Baku,” she said. 
 
Ismayilova said human infection with brucellosis occurs when consuming contaminated food - raw milk or cheese. "The milk should be boiled before drinking, cheese should be stored in salt water for more than 60 days and meat should be fried  with a view to be protected against brucellosis.”
