Baku to host "Caspian: Technologies for Environment International Environmental Exhibition and Conference"

The Caspian: Technologies for the Environment International Exhibition will take place in Azerbaijan on 2-4 November.  The event will be held in Baku Expo Center, with the support and active participation of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Republic. CTE is the biggest event for environmental protection in the Caspian and Caucasus regions, and will present innovations in environmental protection and natural resource management.  Organization of CTE was entrusted to ITE Group plc (UK) and its partner in Azerbaijan, Iteca Caspian.

The show will bring together leading players from the Azerbaijani and international clean technologies market, scientists, government officials and companies offering products and services in the field of environmental protection, recycling and purification.  The aim of the exhibition and conference is to aid the implementation of the government’s environmental protection programme, and to promote and introduce in Azerbaijan innovative environmental equipment and technologies that will help preserve natural resources and improve the public’s quality of life.   

The exhibition will be attended by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which will present an Eco Tourism project;  the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which will present environmental disaster rapid reaction and response projects; the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic; and the government bodies Azersu JSC, which will present a project to modernise the water system throughout Azerbaijan, and Melioration and Water Farm Ojsc, which will present soil protection and modern irrigation system projects. In addition to government agencies and commercial companies, the exhibition will also feature NGOs working in Azerbaijan in the field of environmental protection.      
 
The exhibition will present the latest developments in the effective use of natural and renewable resources (wind, water, earth), and showcase the latest alternative energy equipment, attracting the attention of millions of people to environmental issues and their resolution.  In addition, the exhibition will feature windmills, special vessels which determine the level of pollution in seawater, waste recycling factories, rare plants, landscape design services and much more.  There will also be presentations of a number of environmental projects, such as the Samur-Yalama National Park.
 
Visitors will be able to see natural resource management, alternative and renewable energy, and water purification products and projects from leading companies in the field.  SOCAR, BP and Saipem will present a number of major environmental projects aimed at eliminating the consequences of the long-term development of oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan.  In the past, the method of oil production and low level of technology used led to the pollution of the land.  These companies are now investing heavily in establishing facilities for cleaning and greening oil-contaminated areas.  The exhibition will include a presentation of an eco park established by SOCAR in an area where hydrocarbons were previously produced. 
   
A conference entitled “Environment Technologies and Green Economy” will take place on 3 November 2011 within the Caspian: Technologies for the Environment international exhibition, which is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Republic and held in Baku Expo Centre.

The conference will bring together government agencies, businesses, organisations, educational and scientific institutions, NGOs and other foreign guests.  Papers will be presented and discussions held on topic of the conference.  

The attention of the country's leadership to environmental issues during the “Year of Ecology” in Azerbaijan in 2010 has given strong impetus to the work being done towards improving the environment.  Today, Azerbaijan has acceded to all the international conventions on environmental protection relevant to the country, and a special Public Environmental Council has been established under the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. By demonstrating the achievements in the environmental protection sector, CTE 2011 will enhance cooperation on environmental issues between regional and international public and government organisations, and facilitate experience sharing in energy conservation and alternative energy.
