ICRC delegation visits Azerbaijan`s Health Ministry

Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross` Azerbaijan mission Sherine Pollin and Defense Program coordinator Paula Paulettin have visited the Ministry of Health. Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev praised the ICRC`s activity in Azerbaijan. He in particular lauded the Committee`s implementing a treatment program for prisoners with tuberculosis in the country.

“The program, which was launched in 1995, covered more than 10,500 prisoners. And today there is a very small number of inmates with tuberculosis.” Pollin said the Committee`s Azerbaijan mission is preparing a new program aimed at searching for 3,700 missing Azerbaijanis. Pollin said the program needs to be supported by different government bodies of Azerbaijan, including the Ministry of Health.

Shiraliyev said the Ministry was ready to support the program.
