Participants of the World Youth Festival held in Ganja visited Shaki, a region in the northwest of Azerbaijan to view its must-see places on Wednesday. The visit started from the Palace of the Khans, the city`s landmark monument which dates back to the 18th century. One of the most striking architectural features of the residence is its wooden framed stained glass windows known as "shabaka." Shabaka is a combination of hundreds of hand-crafted pieces of wood (platino and poplar trees) so carefully crafted that they fit together firmly without the use of a single nail. The 2-storied building has 6 rooms, 4 corridors and 2 balconies.
Participants also familiarized themselves with museums of historical- ethnography and folk art located in the state historical - architectural reserve Yukhari - Bash (Upper head), as well as painting gallery and “Masters` House”, Yukhary Caravanserai (Upper Caravanserai) hotel complex built in the end of the XVIII century and the beginning of the XIX century. Memorial gifts were presented to participants.
