Highway bridge collapsed in Azerbaijan

A bridge on the Kur river, in the 8th km of the Hajigabul-Bahramtepe highway collapsed, deputy chief of Highway Department #34 Nizami Mammadov said.

He said the traffic was stopped in both directions, as the reinforced concrete plate on the bridge collapsed. New concrete plates have been brought for reconstruction of 12 sq m collapsed part. Deputy chief of the department said the concrete plates would be installed by 15.00. The bridge collapsed as the lifting gate had been removed. After that the driving of heavy trucks was restored. This resulted in the collapse of the bridge.

The experts, who had been sent to the area, said driving of heavy trucks on the bridge must be banned. They said the bridge was in danger, the metal structures used there went out of order.
