Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev visits southern regions - UPDATE - PHOTOS

On his way back from Astara region, President Ilham Aliyev had a stopover in Salyan, central district of country. Local residents warmly welcomed President Ilham Aliyev. The Head of State toured the town. President was inquired about what were being done in Salyan.

Head of the Executive Power Tahir Karimov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the works to be done in the city.

President Ilham Aliyev met local residents once again while familiarizing himself with ongoing works in the town. The Head of State was inquired about problems of residents. President Ilham Aliyev spoke of the planned projects to solve the existing problems in Salyan.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday inspected construction of the Olympic Sports Complex in Astara. The Head of State was told the construction of the Complex started in 2007.

The facility will consist of two-storey universal sports hall and two-storey swimming pool, which occupy a total area of 5 hectares. The Complex also includes canteens, cottages, tennis court, football stadium, as well as basketball and volleyball halls.

President Ilham Aliyev praised the work done here and gave certain instructions.

President Ilham Aliyev attended a groundbreaking ceremony for "Astara-1" small hydroelectric station to be constructed on the Istisu River. President of "Azerenerji" Joint-Stock Company Etibar Pirverdiyev informed the Head of State about construction of the hydroelectric station.

Ilham Aliyev viewed scheme of the station and photo stands featuring the building. The Head of State was told hundreds of small hydroelectric stations were planned to be built in the country in the near future.

Serious measures are underway to strengthen the potential of small hydroelectric stations in member states of the Council of Europe. Then, President Aliyev put a time capsule into the foundation and covered it with liquid concrete.

The Head of State wished successes to constructors and gave instructions and recommendations.

President Ilham Aliyev has today got acquainted with the State Flag Square at the Heydar Aliyev Avenue in Astara. As stated, the national flag is 65 meters high.

A park was built around the Square with modern lighting system. The Head of State also opened the Youth House in Astara. The President cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the facility.

President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with the two-storey building of the House, which occupies a total area of 900 square meters.

The Head of State was told all necessary conditions had been created here for youngsters to have a rest. President Ilham Aliyev praised the work done here.

President Ilham Aliyev has today attended the inauguration of gas-compressor station in Astara. The Head of State was warmly welcomed by the staff of the station.

SOCAR's president Rovnag Abdullayev told the Head of State the construction of the station was successfully completed and the facility was put into operation by the State Commission.

President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with the activity of the station and launched the facility.

As stated, all conditions have been created for workers in an administrative building built in the area of the station. All rooms were provided with modern equipments.

President Ilham Aliyev praised the work done here and wished successes to the staff of the station.

President Ilham Aliyev has today familiarized himself with the conditions created in the Astara customs office.

Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev reported to the Head of State. President Ilham Aliyev was warmly welcomed by customs officials. The Head of State was informed that the customs office was rebuilt and provided with modern equipments.

President Ilham Aliyev was told all necessary conditions had been created here. The Head of State also got acquainted with the conditions created in the import customs control point.

The President viewed photo stands reflecting previous and current views of the Astara customs office.

President Aliyev was informed that land-improvement works had been done around the administrative building of the Customs office with 205 employees.

The President familiarized himself with the activity of the Customs Education Center and the Az Duty Free Shops trade center.

The Head of State praised the work done here and gave certain recommendations and instructions.

President Ilham Aliyev on April 15 attended the inauguration of Heydar Aliyev Center in Astara. The Head of State cut the red ribbon symbolizing the official opening and toured the Center. The construction of the Center started in January of 2011.

The monument to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev was erected in the entrance hall of a two-storey building. President familiarized himself with photographs and documents reflecting different periods of national leader Heydar Aliyev's life and activity, and also toured chess room, art studio, applied art studio and e-library on the second floor of the Complex.

Then President Ilham Aliyev signed the Heydar Aliyev Complex`s Guest book.

President of Azerbaijan on Thursday attended the inauguration of highway between Astara and Bala Shakhagaj village, which has recently undergone major reconstruction. The President examined the photo stand featuring the status of the road before and after the repairs.

Addressing the inauguration, Mayor of Astara Mahir Guliyev said that the project was implemented in accordance with the President Ilham Aliyev's April 21, 2010 order “on measures to speed up social and economic development of Astara region”.

The Order allocated AZN 3.5 million from the President`s Reserve Fund to the Astara Executive Power to implement the project. The road has a 6-meter-wide asphalt coat including a 2.6-meter-wide pavement on both sides. Also 3 bridges, 6 water junctions and 5 bus stations were constructed on the road. The Head of State cut the red ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the highway.

President Ilham Aliyev as part of his southern region tour on April 15 arrived in Astara region of Azerbaijan.

In Astara's central park named after Heydar Aliyev, the Head of State laid flowers at the monument to Heydar Aliyev, national leader of Azerbaijan.
The Astara's Heydar park has recently undergone major reconstructions.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday familiarized himself with the construction work in Sarchuvar village of the Masalli-Astara part of the Alat-Astara-Iran frontier highway.

The Head of State viewed photo stands reflecting the scheme of the Alat-Astara highway. Transport minister Ziya Mammadov informed the Head of State the facility was 22 km in length and 27.5 in width.

Six bridges, four road junctions and 133 water junctions will be built on the highway.
Here, President Ilham Aliyev viewed photo stands of a new bridge to be built on the Kura River.

The President was informed that the length of the bridge would be 370 meters, while the width 30 meters. Aliyev praised the work done here and gave certain recommendations and instructions.

President Ilham Aliyev met with local residents in Massalli region on Thursday. The Head of State congratulated the residents on the reconstruction of the park. The President noted at present Masalli experiences its new development period. He pointed out all settlements of the region would be supplied with gas until the end of the year.

The Head of State said there was great attention in Azerbaijan for creation of social infrastructure. President Aliyev also touched upon Azerbaijan's rapid development and the country's increasing image in the world. The Head of State wished successes to residents.

On behalf of residents, teacher Ahmad Mammadov and MP Elmira Akhundova thanked President Ilham Aliyev for his care and attention to rapid development of the country. The Head of State posed for photographs with residents.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday inaugurated the Nizami Ganjavi park in Masalli region after reconstruction.

The President was warmly welcomed by local residents.

Governor of Masalli Gazanfar Agayev told the Head of State the park was built in 1967 and reconstruction work here started early this year.

The park, whose total area is 4.5 square meters, got green areas, decorative trees and bushes, benches, fountain and a modern lightning system.

A new monument to great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi was erected here. The length of the monument is 3.6 meters.

President Ilham Aliyev laid flowers at the monument.

Then, the Head of State met with local residents.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday arrived in the country's Masalli region, as part of his southern region tour.

The Head of State started his trip by visiting a monument to the national leader at the Heydar Aliyev park.

The Head of State was informed about improvements and rebuilding work in the region.
The Heydar Aliyev Park was reconstructed and the Heydar Aliyev museum was built in Masalli.

The park got green areas, two fountains and a modern lightning system.
President Ilham Aliyev praised the work done here.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday inspected the reconstruction work in the Alat-Astara-Iran frontier highway.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the Head of State about the technical and economic indicators of the highway.

The construction of the highway started in March, 2009.

The four-lane facility is 205 km in length and 27.5 meters in width.

The highway has two road junctions.

President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
