Over 11 pedestrians killed, 46 injured within 'safety month' in Baku

About 53 accidents related to accidents with pedestrians were registered in Baku within a "safety month" "Caution: Pedestrians!" held from April 15 to May 15. As a result of accidents 11 pedestrians died, 46 - inured, Baku's State Administration of Traffic Police public affairs department head Jamshid Hanifayev.

Accidents with pedestrians were most registered in Nasimi (10), Yasamal (8) and Khatai (8) districts of the capital. The greatest number of fatal accidents occurred in Azizbayov (2) and Narimanov (2) areas of the city.

There were 4,794 facts related to violation of traffic rules by pedestrians during "safety month". Violations were recorded in Nizami (352), Nasimi (348) and Binagadi (335) districts of the capital. Hanifayev said that about 4,129 violations were registered last year over the same period.

Pedestrians who violated the traffic rules were fined by the relevant article of the Code of Administrative Offences by 10 manat. Most of the violations committed during this period pedestrians were associated with not using of surface and underground passages.

About 40 accidents, killing 14 and injuring 29 people were registered during a month of road safety "Warning: Pedestrians!" last year.

About 217 traffic accidents were registered within three months of this year on the roads and streets of the capital. As a result, 82 people died and 165 people injured. Such incidents make up 41.9% of all accidents in the country and 52.6% in Baku.
