Montana State University student awarded with Heydar Aliyev Prize - PHOTOS

Colin Daniel won the Heydar Aliyev Prize in 2010 for excellence in preparing and conducting coursework on Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) at Montana State University, the Azerbaijan Consulate General in Los Angeles reported. The annual award is given to U.S. students who have distinguished themselves in Azerbaijan and Eurasia research, and was established by the consulate in 2008.

Azerbaijani Consul General Elin Suleymanov presented the award to Daniel during a visit to the university. Suleymanov noted the high level of awareness among students about the region and noted that the idea of cooperation to increase prosperity in the framework of the BSEC was part of the strategic vision of Azerbaijani national leader former President Heydar Aliyev.

He noted that the approach is reflected today in the regional integration policies pursued by President Ilham Aliyev. After the speech, top students were presented with souvenirs.

The BSEC course is lead by Professor Thomas Goltz at the Political Science Faculty of Montana State University, and was realized with the support of the consulate.

Suleymanov held a seminar for teachers and students at the university's Energy Center. He touched upon Azerbaijan' role in energy security, as well as the country's policy to develop alternative energy sources and improve the ecological situation.
