President Aliyev raises teachers' wages by 25 percent

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has signed an instruction to raise teachers' wages by 25 percent beginning from October 1.

It is motivated by the necessity of improving the social protection of workers of the educational sphere, says the document distributed through official channels in Baku on Friday. The given measure concerns more than 370,000 teachers in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijanian head of state often said about the necessity to increase expenditures on education, including the strengthening of the social protection of workers of this sphere. According to him, it's high time to invest profits from oil in the humanitarian sphere, including education.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, the share of expenditures on education in the country's budget for 2006 is the biggest one - - more than 20 percent. In accordance with the draft budget for 2007, which has been already approved by the government of the country, an increase of expenditures on education is planned to be 42.1 percent.
