Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and Bulgaria are holding negotiations on the creation of an overland electricity transit corridor, according to Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze, AzerNEWS reports.

The initiative is considered economically significant and could strengthen Georgia’s role as a regional energy transit hub.

“This is a very important and interesting initiative from an economic perspective,” Pkhaladze said. “In addition to transit, Georgia will also export its own electricity, which will support local businesses and contribute to the further development of the country’s energy sector.”

According to the deputy minister, the proposed corridor would enable electricity from any interested country, particularly neighboring states, to be transported through Georgia to European markets.

The project could create a new route for cross-border electricity trade while expanding regional energy connectivity between the South Caucasus, Türkiye and Europe.
