
After full realization of Baku Metro’s development plan, 98.6 sq. km. of the capital will be provided metro, and it makes 76% of Great Baku, deputy chief of metro Arif Resulov said at the International Congress and Exhibition, ‘Tunneling and underground infrastructure of cities’.
To him, according to long-term conceptual development plan, two existing lines of metro will be lengthened. Consequently, 3 additional lines will be launched, 84.3 km metro line and 53 new stations will be constructed. New stations will be joined with current underground passage, other types of transport, as well as parkings and trade centers.
Resulov noted that according to development plan of metro, central parts of Baku will be totally covered with metro and metro lines will be launched in the suburbs, where person’s density is higher: ‘Metro has no alternative in passenger transportation of Baku. 30% of passenger transportation on the capital fell on share of metro. Annually 200 mln, daily 500,000 people are transported by metro. Record in this sphere was recorded in May, 2011 – 770 persons per day’.
