
The “Pakistan Observer” newspaper has published an article about humanitarian activity of Azerbaijan in this country. The author, in particular, writes: “Azerbaijan has stepped up humanitarian activities in Pakistan and planned to donate a sizeable amount to launch welfare projects to mitigate sufferings of the needy people of Pakistan. These welfare projects will spread over Pakistan in the fields of health, education and other human activities. The Ambassador of Azerbaijan Dashgin Shikarov will pay visits to different parts of Pakistan to launch such projects with the coordination of Pakistani welfare organizations.
In this connection, the ambassador visited Hamza Foundation, Peshawar to take part in the celebrations of World Blood Donor Day on invitation of Senators Haji Ghulam Ali and Haji Mohammad Adeel on June 14 last. The aim of the event was to raise awareness about safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary blood donors for their life-saving gifts. The theme of the campaign, “Every blood donor is a hero” was focused on the idea that everyone can become a hero by giving blood.
While speaking at the ceremony of Hamza Foundation, Ambassador D. Shikarov paid tributes to the silent and unsung heroes who save lives every day through their blood donations and emphasized that this initiative may strongly encourages more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly. He acknowledged and appreciated the tireless work of Hamza Foundation and its Founder Mr. Ijaz Ali Khan in safe blood transfusion to the beneficiaries on both sides of Durand Line on purely voluntary basis.
Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov donated one fully equipped Suzuki Ambulance and 2000 blood collection bags to Hamza Foundation on behalf of First Lady of Azerbaijan Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, who is President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO.
Azerbaijani Ambassador apprised the audience on welfare activities of Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He said that it has launched large scale projects in Azerbaijan and other countries. It deals with children’s problems, provides regular moral and financial assistance to the elderly people. The newly constructed schools, Thalassemia Centre, clinics, musical lyceums, mosques, renovated shrines and religious monuments, concert halls as well as promotion of cultural heritage of Azerbaijan’s and the world are just some of the works done by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov was the first to donate blood and called upon others to join this noble cause on the occasion.
During his stay in Peshawar Azerbaijani Ambassador also visited Khyber Eye Foundation to take part in laying dawn a foundation stone of the Eye Hospital’s new block and made a financial assistance for its construction on behalf of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.
Addressing the gathering of staff members of the Foundation and the guests, Senator Haji Ghulam Ali and Chairman of Khyber Eye Foundation Malik Muhammad Ali said that this donation will help to enhance efficiency of the Eye Hospital and assist people to restore their eye- sight.
It is pertinent here to mention about the projects of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation having been implemented in Pakistan. It covers the health care and education projects, donation to orphanages and the destitute, construction of school in earthquake zone and assistance to the families of those who laid down their lives for the country.
Recently, the Foundation completed the program of hepatitis B vaccination and the open-heart surgery in collaboration with “Kulsum International” at “Edhi Home,” “Women and Children Hospital” at Lakki Marwat and free treatment at “Akbar Care Institute for Cerebral Palsy” in Peshawar.
