20 October 2011 [18:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Turkish Army on Thursday launched large-scale operations in five regions in northern Iraq. The operations involve 22 battalions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said.

The ground operations were launched in response to a terrorist attack of militants of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on the night of Oct. 19 in Hakkari Province on the border with Iraq, which killed 24 Turkish servicemen and wounded 18, RIA Novosti reported.

On Wednesday morning, the special mission battalion of the Turkish Army entered northern Iraq, who began pursuit Kurdish militants at a depth of three to four kilometers. The aviation and artillery forces of Turkey Army, in turn, bombed bases of separatists.
