UN: Kurdish attacks in Turkey "unacceptable"

20 October 2011 [10:31] - TODAY.AZ
The killing of 24 Turkish soldiers by a Kurdish rebel group operating from bases in Iraq was "unacceptable," UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Wednesday, DPA reported.

"It is clearly unacceptable that Iraq's territory is being used to mount cross-border attacks against neighbouring countries," Ban said.

He called for respect of Iraq's and Turkey's sovereignty and territorial integrity and urged the two countries to "engage in constructive dialogue in order to find a peaceful solution to this challenge."

The attacks were led by Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the US.
