University lecturer murdered in Armenia

Armenian central police department received information on a fire. Arriving at the scene, the policemen found the body of 64-year-old Armine Hovvyan, and 43-year-old Karen Petrosyan. The man was taken to hospital.

The police found out that, the same day, Karen Petrosyan arrived at Armine Hovvyan's apartment. A little later, he struck the woman with a hammer and murdered her. The criminal seized the woman's money, AMD 40,000 (about US $110), and jewelry. To cover up the traces he tried to set the flat on the fire. However, the criminal was unable to get out of the flat.

After being taken to hospital, Karen Petrosyan tried to flee. But policemen detained him. The money and the jewelry was confiscated.
An investigation is under way.

Armine Hovvyan was a lecturer at the Russian Language and Literature Department, Yerevan State University.
