Bushehr NPP to operate next week

06 September 2011 [17:12] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says that the Bushehr nuclear power plant will operate initially (with 40% capacity) next Monday, reported IRNA.

Russia Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko will participate in the inauguration ceremony of Bushehr NPP.

Iran’s only completed NPP, Bushehr, has supplied about 60 megawatt of electricity to the country's electric network since Sept. 4.

The construction of 1000 megawat-Bushehr NPP started in 1975 when Germany signed a contract with Iran. Germany, however, pulled out of the project following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran then signed a deal with Russia in 1995, under which the plant was originally scheduled to be completed in 1999, but the completion of the project was repeatedly delayed. The nuclear power plant was finally finished with the help of Russia following a three-decade delay.
