President: Georgia passed through hard 20 years of independence

27 May 2011 [09:42] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia will be united and independent no matter what, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said at a military parade marking Independence Day today.

He stressed that Georgia is celebrating 20 years of independence. "This is, of course, few and many. However, Georgia suffered a lot during this time and I would like to note that we could do something to strengthen our independence and freedom during this time," he said.

Saakashvili said today’s Georgia is not what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. "We made a big step forward in building a state, but this is only the first steps, and we should do a lot," he said.

The country should be built in spite of all its enemies, he said.
