Iran's FM spokesman: Bin Laden's death leaves no excuse for foreigners' presence in the region

02 May 2011 [18:00] - TODAY.AZ
There is no other excuse for outsiders to send troops to the region following Osama Bin Laden's death, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, ISNA reported.

"Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that no excuse is left for foreign countries to send forces to the region to fight terrorism," Mehmanparast told.

"We hope the event (death of al-Qaeda leader) would end war, conflict and killing of innocent people and help establishment of peace and calm in the region."

"The issue (killing of Bin Laden) showed that there is no need to send a massive army to confront only one person."

The al-Qaeda leader died during a firefight in Abbottabad, Pakistan, U.S. President Barack Obama said in a televised address.
