Russian parliament ratifies agreement 'Joint Defence of Borders' with Georgia's separatists regimes

27 March 2010 [10:50] - TODAY.AZ
Russian Duma has ratified agreements - ‘Joint Defence of Borders’ - with South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The above-mentioned agreements have been submitted to the Russian Duma by President Dmitry Medvedev.

He signed the agreements along with leaders of Tskhinvali and Sokhumi regimes on 30 April 2009.

According to the agreements, the both de-facto republics acknowledge Russian authority in defence of ‘state borders’, while Abkhazia acknowledges Russian authority in control of the Abkhazian sea area.

Russia will have a right to use real estate, air space, airdromes and communication channels of the de-facto republics.

The agreement says Russia will defend the borders of so-called South Ossetia and Abkhazia until the republics establish their own departments of border defence.

Besides, the sides say the agreement is not against the third country.
