French citizen arrested in Iran to stand trial Jan.16

The trial of French teaching assistant Clotilde Reiss will be held on Saturday, her lawyer Mohammadali Mahdevi Sabit was quoted as saying by the Iranian Fars news agency.

He said that the trial process will be held at the Tehran City Court department No.15 and under chair of Judge Salavati. "We hope that this time the court will find her not guilty," he added.

 Reiss, who is out of jail on bail and staying at the French embassy, is accused of taking part in a Western plot to destabilize the Iranian government after the June 12 vote in which hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected.
Reiss was arrested on July 1. She academic and gave lectures at the Isfahan University.

The latest trial on the French scientist was held Dec.23. Earlier, Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dovlatabadi said Clotilde Reiss will stand trial soon. He said that a final decision will be made following the court hearings.

After the presidential elections in Iran June 12, the opposition announced rigging the voting results. Reformist candidates Mir Hussein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have reported extensive fraud in the elections. Observers say the protests, which began in Iran after the elections have become the largest since the 1979 Islamic revolution. They arrested hundreds of political activists and killed dozens of civilians.
