Iranian FM: Iran gives time limit to U.S

29 December 2009 [18:07] - TODAY.AZ
Not the U.S sets time limit to Iran, but Iran to the U.S, Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was quoted as saying by the Iranian Mehr news agency.

"We have given deferment to the U.S and we have determined the time. They are aware of this time," he said replying to the question about the time limit that the U.S set for Iran.

If the U.S and the West takes wise decisions on ensuring the Tehran reactor with necessary nuclear fuel, Iran will officially hail this, Mottaki said. "If the U.S and West takes wise decisions on purchase or exchange of necessary nuclear fuel, then we will hail it," he added.

The West has asked Iran to transfer 1,200 kilograms of 3.5-percent enriched uranium to Russia in exchange for 20-percent enriched uranium to provide fuel for the reactor's laboratory.

The Tehran laboratory reactor was built 40 years ago by the U.S. Its main function is to produce medicine. Acquiring 30 kg of 19.75-percent-uranium from Argentina, Iran provided the laboratory with fuel in 1993 for the last time.
