OpenAI has announced a major update for free ChatGPT users, saying it is preparing to remove usage limits on text-based conversations, AzerNEWS reports.
Under the planned changes, Free and Go users will be able to have unlimited text-based conversations with ChatGPT. According to the company, the default model for Free and Go users will be the new GPT-5.6 Luna, which will replace the currently available GPT-5.5.
Users will also receive a new “Think” button, allowing them to activate the model’s more advanced reasoning capabilities when dealing with complex questions and tasks.
However, the unlimited access will apply only to text-based conversations. Separate usage limits will remain in place for file uploads and processing, image and voice features, as well as AI-powered image generation.
OpenAI has also introduced updates for its paid Plus and Pro subscribers. These users will have access to the upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol model.
According to OpenAI, GPT-5.6 Sol delivers improved performance across a range of everyday tasks, including answering questions, conducting web research, providing advice, planning, writing and decision-making.
The company also highlighted the model’s ability to provide more concise and reliable responses as one of the key improvements in the new version.
