Putin, Erdogan to meet until late 2016

Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet on the sidelines of the 23rd World Energy Congress to be held in Istanbul. 

President Putin will attend the 23rd World Energy Congress in Istanbul due between October 9 and October 13, said Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Ushakov announced that Putin will meet Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 10.

Earlier, Turkish Ambassador Umit Yardim noted that the two presidents will possibly hold another meeting until late 2016 as well.

 “It is planned that our leaders will meet in St. Petersburg in late 2016,” said Yardim.

Last time, Presidents Erdogan and Putin met on August 9 to restore ties, which were severely damaged after downed Russian jet near the Syrian border in November 2015.

The visit marked a first since last November when the crisis in relations between the countries started and is also Erdogan’s first foreign visit after a failed coup attempt in Turkey.

The two countries discussed the Syrian crisis settlement, as well as, different aspects of further cooperation in the sphere of energy during the meeting. 

Following the result of the meetings between the two leaders, the projects of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant and the Turkish Stream gas pipeline were resumed.

Vladimir Putin, earlier, stressed that Russia and Turkey intend to hold a meeting of a strategic planning group in the first half of 2017, and noted that the countries have all opportunities to restore and strengthen full-length relations.
