Iran will send its warships to Russia’s Astrakhan port in a friendly symbolic act, the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Bahram Qasemi said.

Russian warships also are scheduled to berth at Iranian Anzali port in Caspian Sea for a few days, Qasemi went on to say at a press conference in Tehran, Trend correspondent reported from the event Sept. 5.

The first ever visit of the Caspian Flotilla warships to Iran happened in 2007. Back then a missile boat “Tatarstan” entered Iran’s port of Anzali. The next visit by the Caspian Flotilla’s warships “Dagestan” and “Grad Sviyazhsk” to Iran took place in November of 2014.

Iran’s missile boats “Paykan” and “Joshan” also paid a courtesy visit to the port of Astrakhan in 2013.

Qasemi further said that Iran will continue security cooperation with Russia, while responding to a question about possible use of Nojeh airbase in Iran’s western Hamadan By Russia for attacking terrorists in Syria in the future.

“The kind of actions that this cooperation entails depends on the situation and the way third and fourth countries cooperate with us on the front,” Qasemi added.

On Aug. 16, Russia said its bomber planes are deployed in Iran and from there the bombers launch attacks on the IS (Islamic State, ISIS, aka ISIL) terrorist group's positions in Syria.

Some Iranian politicians’ raised concerns on the issue, saying the move is against the Islamic Republic’s constitution.

A few days later Tehran announced that Moscow's use of the Iranian airbase has ended.
