Iran extracting 1 mcm/d gas from joint field with Turkmenistan

Despite a previous slump, Iran is currently extracting one million cubic meters of gas from the Gonbadli field (shared with Turkmenistan), CEO of Iranian Central Oil Fields Company Salbali Karimi said.

Following preservation and reinforcement operations, Iran managed to keep extracting gas from the field at high level, he noted, Mehr news agency reported January 19.

The field is estimated to hold 7.8 billion cubic meters of gas, 91 percent of which had been extracted by 2005. The field was first tapped in 1987 for its sweet gas.

Recently Iran announced it had accomplished the development projects it had devised for the field.

The gas is currently used for furnaces and boilers. There are nine wells drilled at the field, three of which can produce 1.1 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Iran is also planning for the current year to install refinery facilities around the field to feed the local petrochemical market.
