Facebook activity triggers arrest of two Iranians

10 July 2013 [10:36] - TODAY.AZ
Two people were arrested in Iran's Semnan province on charge of offending Iran's officials on their facebook, head of the Cyber Police (FATA) of Semnan province Ali Mirahmadi said, Mehr news agency reported.

Improving the security of the cyber space via continuous monitoring is the main purpose of the FATA, he said.

Nearly two million of 75-million population of Iran have Facebook accounts, Qanun Newspaper quoted Deputy Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard at Iran's Majlis (parliament) as saying on January 13.

Comparing the Iranian population with that in the US and China, the percentage of Facebook users in Iran is bigger than in other countries.

Iran has blocked and demonized the social network as a "Zionist" instrument and a tool of "soft war" against the Islamic republic for this reason.
