'Iran ready to allay concerns over nuclear issue'

29 December 2012 [14:40] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has reaffirmed Iran's readiness to hold logical talks with the six major world powers (P5+1), saying Tehran is ready to allay international concerns over its nuclear energy program, Press TV reported.

"We are completely ready to hold talks with the P5+1 and have a logical framework. If there is a specific concern, we are also prepared to allay concerns," Mehmanparast said in a meeting with managers and editors-in-chief of Turkish media on Friday.

He added that talks between Iran and the P5+1 - China, Russia, France, Britain, the US and Germany - should be based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iran remains committed to non-military nuclear activities and insists that its nuclear energy program should be recognized, the Iranian spokesperson pointed out.

"In that case, sanctions and hostile activities have no meaning," he said, expressing hope that the future talks with the P5+1 countries would bear fruit.

Iran and the P5+1 have held several rounds of talks mainly on Tehran's nuclear energy issue.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran argues that as a signatory to the NPT and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
