Iran seizes 10 tons of narcotics across territorial waters

30 October 2012 [15:06] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian police has confiscated some 10 tons of narcotics from drug smugglers across territorial waters during the first half of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 20, the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian Police Coastguard chief, Brigadier General Ali-Mohammad Salami as saying.

The Caspian Sea states hold regular meetings annually to combat narcotics, he said, adding that a meeting will be held this year as well.

"Iran has signed agreements with its eight southern neighbors and four northern neighbors in this regard. Inking such agreements with Saudi Arabia and Oman is on the agenda," he noted.

Iran has some 2,700 kilometers of joint sea border with its neighbors.
