Azerbaijan ups gas supplies to Turkey

20 October 2012 [11:55] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan increases gas supplies to Turkey by 50 percent due to explosion on a gas pipeline, transporting gas from Iran to Turkey, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said on Saturday agency Ihlas reported on Saturday.

Yildiz noted that gas supplies from Russia also increased.

Militants of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have blown up the main pipe section of the Iran-Turkey pipeline at the Turkish province of Agri.

Some 27 million cubic meters of natural gas were supplied daily through this pipeline from Iran to Turkey.

According to the Turkish state pipeline company Botas, in 2011, Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas. Russia ranks first among countries exporting gas to Turkey, which is followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
