Date set for 1st session of new Georgian parliament

The first session of the Georgian parliament will take place on October 1 in Kutaisi, Georgian Dream coalition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili told journalists on Tuesday.

"We could hold the session on October 20th, but the new parliament building has to be ready," he noted.

Some 85 deputies from Georgian Dream and some 65 from United National Movement will be included to Georgian new parliament.

The powers of 7th convocation of parliament will be terminated at the first session of parliament.

The parliament speaker and vice speaker, committee chairmen and members are going to be elected after recognition of deputy mandates. Thereafter the new Cabinet of Ministers is going to be presented for approval.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 1. Around 14 parties and two political blocs participated in the elections. The elections were held by mixes list majority system.
